What an incredibly eventful week it’s been for Class 1!
We started our new topic by recording our prior knowledge of festivals and celebrations on the Padlet app. We also generated some questions we would like answered as we move forward in our learning.
P1s and P3s began by exploring birthdays. They made party food, wrote invitations and cards and even tried to play ‘Happy birthday’ on the xylophone!
Later in the week, we were all introduced to the Hindu festival of Diwali. We watched videos explaining how people prepare for this special event and what they do once it arrives. While some of us created attractive posters sharing festival facts, others performed the famous story of ‘Rama and Sita’ who are remembered during Diwali.
During our literacy sessions, we’ve been rehearsing our spelling words daily and had some Big Writing time to record our version of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. Afterwards, we swapped our stories with a partner and assessed their work. Our P1 pupils tried especially hard to order the story events independently, then retell the tale to Mrs Paul from start to finish!
In our numeracy, we have been playing games to practise our Basic Facts so that we can remember them quickly and accurately. I have been particularly impressed with some of the children’s games created at home- great job! Additionally, some of us have started to explore ordinal numbers such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 145th!
Today, we all enjoyed our time watching ‘Dumbo’ at Vue cinema. This felt like a special and well-deserved treat after working so hard on our learning.
Have a great weekend everyone!
