Class 1 – First Week Back

Last Monday Class 1 returned to school smiley, happy and ready to get going! So, we started off the second term by getting crafty. In honour of our previous topic, we made our own cup and ball toys as well as puppets to act out songs like ‘Skinny Malinky’ and ‘Ye Cannae Push Yer Granny Aff a Bus’. I hope the children have shared this at home, and perhaps treated family members to a little performance!

For our literacy, our continued focus is traditional stories with our current text being ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. Throughout this theme, we will be improving our oral retelling, our spellings, our grammar and our generation of exciting vocabulary.

During our numeracy time, everyone has been practising their fast and accurate recall of Basic Facts. We will be challenging ourselves further with a weekly quiz which will come home once completed. Additionally, we are finishing off our place value block and moving on to addition and subtraction strategies.

In PE, we have evaluated our small equipment skills and ended our week with team relay races that incorporated skipping, throwing, catching and balancing. Lots of fun!

A few reminders as we go into our second week:

– All children must have PE kits ready for sessions on Mondays and Fridays. Ideally, kept in a separate named bag.

– As the weather changes, all children will need appropriate outdoor clothing to ensure they are warm and dry.

– We will be going on our cinema trip this Friday 8th November.

– We are starting our new topic ‘Festivals and Celebrations’.

Many thanks, and I hope you have all had a lovely weekend 🙂
