***Help Needed: Please Read***

many handsSchool Fund: Over the last few years, I have tried very hard not to ask parents to pay for any of the activities that we do in school (other than the P7 residential trip). This year, the school fund is running a bit low, so I would welcome some fundraising ideas and organisational support from the parent council to give it a much needed boost. Evidence of fundraising activities also helps me with applications for school improvement grants.

Benefit Fund: For parents who don’t know, Daviot Primary School is eligible for monetary support from the local wind-farm. I make a grant application every year to help subsidise pupils’ educational experiences. However, we can also apply for additional assistance for other school/community projects. I would welcome the support of the parent council to consider future applications and lead the application process.

Storage: Daviot Primary is in desperate need of some storage space. I know that we have some very talented joiners amongst the parent council, so I was wondering if any parents could team up together and build us some shelves/cupboards. I would also welcome some advice on materials and estimated costs.

School Environment: At the last parent council meeting, we discussed having a day when the school community came together to help tidy up the outdoor environment. It would be great if we could find a day convenient for everyone in the Easter holidays. I would particularly welcome some ideas/support to improve the front of the school.

Polytunnel Project: I would really appreciate it if the parent council could come up with some ideas to make full use of the polytunnel. It is such an exceptional resource, but over the last 12 months we haven’t maximised its potential. When the weather improves, it would be brilliant if some parents could volunteer to restart the gardening club too.

Getting Involved: It would be a huge help if members of parent council could help me coordinate, organise and implement these school improvement initiatives.

Thanks so much for your support.

Notice Board Banner 2

Tuesday 21st: P7 Employment Extravaganza at Millburn (9.45-2.30)

***Carol will chaperone. Packed lunches required.

Tuesday 21st: Gymnastics Club (3.00-4.00)

***Louise’s coaching commitments are changing next term. She will only be available on Thursdays. Please drop Carol an email if this will cause any problems. If pupil numbers decrease significantly, we may have to consider a different option.

Wednesday 22nd: MacRobert Cup Cross Country Event (9.00–12.00)

P2/3 – 800 metres, P4/5 – 1200 metres, P6/7 – 1600 metres

***Please send pupils fully prepared (kit/trainers/warm clothes/snack/water bottle etc.). We don’t have enough tracksuits for all the children, so we won’t be taking them. Packed lunches are required. I would encourage all pupils to participate, but if any children would prefer to watch this year (like P1), please let me know before Wednesday. If any parents are planning to attend, I’d really appreciate it if you could tell Carol in advance. We may need some parent helpers.

Wednesday 22nd: Science Club (3.00 4.30)

***Even though we have finished the Raspberry Pi projects, Mr Elder has very kindly offered to continue Science Club. Our next competition is called ‘Heather’s Hut.’ It is a wind, solar and hydro renewable energy project. It could result in a trip to Glasgow in June – which would be great!

Thursday 23rd: Swimming (1.30–2.30)

***Please send children fully prepared for a trip to the Aquadome.

Friday 24th: Las Plant Trip (12.30-2.30)

***I am hoping to take the whole school to Las Plant on Friday afternoon. We have been invited along to see some real cranes in operation. I also have another whole school trip planned for the following week (Tuesday 28th). If any parents haven’t signed the parental permission slip covering all school trips until the end of the year, please let Carol know. Thanks so much.

Thank you, Holly!

I just wanted to add a special post for Holly. A little while ago, I said there was a prize available for the pupil who posted the most messages on the blog. All posts get sent directly to my phone, and it’s no exaggeration to say that Holly puts a message on the blog almost every day. Thank you, Holly. Your posts always make me stop for a minute and smile. I will be presenting you with a special prize at our next assembly.smile

Fingers Crossed!

The entry forms for the PAPi Awards are in! Our inventions are called the DAVESTER 2000 and the PIPERDRIVE. Even if we don’t make the final this year, we’ve had great fun with these projects. Fingers crossed, everyone!

***Music Concert***

Val also asked me to promote the Strathnairn Music Initiative Concert.

Saturday 1st April at Farr Hall: 2.00-4.00pm

All members of the community are welcome. There will be music, a raffle, tea and coffee – and home baking too. It should be great.

***Exercise Class***

Val – a great friend of Team Daviot and our next door neighbour – asked me to advertise her exercise class (for adults). Val is lovely, and she is a brilliant personal trainer. If anyone in the school community is interested, her contact details are on the flyer below:
